Enterprise manifesto hotting up
March 5th, 2010 by PeterThe Enterprise Manifesto is hotting up – with a host of ideas submitted to help shape promote and support entrepreneurship in the UK. This first week has seen over 50 ideas added, which already show a really diverse range of views on what people think can be done to support entrepreneurs. There are also some exciting partnerships being developed with a range of great organisations to raise the profile of the manifesto – including smarta.com, enterprise nation and the British Library IP Centre
The big news is that our own Chair Peter Jones is leading in the popularity stakes with his idea for every school to have an entrepreneur in residence. Education seems to be a really busy topic and one of my favourite ideas so far, from Jack F from London, is to have a requirement for university courses to expose students to entrepreneurs relevant to their course. This would be a great way to change attitudes towards entrepreneurship and give young people the confidence to start-up – but is also something that could be achieved relatively easily.
Out of all the ideas submitted around support for entrepreneurs, the most popular one so far is to increase networking opportunities.
Special mention, however, goes to Sophie Mei for her concern for entrepreneurs’ health. It coincides nicely with a report by NEF about how we should all be working less and spending more time on leisure. It’s inspiring me to leave on time tonight, get on my dancing shoes and attempt to imitate some of Sophie’s moves!
Cheers Sophie and Jack F and all the others who have contributed so far – including loads of entrepreneurs, the NFEA, Social Enterprise Coalition, FSB and IoD. Get in touch with policy@enterpriseuk.org if you want to know more about getting involved.
