Recently I visited the fantastic facilities at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light Football Foundation.

Sunderland FC are the newest member of the Premier League Enterprise Academy Scheme, and they complete the list of leading North East football clubs involved, along with Newcastle United and Middlesbrough FC. Funding has been secured to run Enterprise Academy projects for young people at the club for the next two years through Regional Development Agency, One North East.

Angela Craggs of One North East says:

“Football Clubs have passionate, committed fans providing the perfect environment to help boost self-confidence and raise aspirations among students, helping them understand how a successful and sustainable enterprise is built and maintained.

“Sunderland’s academy provides a hat-trick of such projects in the North East who together will harness that passion to stimulate young minds and hopefully inspire young entrepreneurs of the future in this region.”

The workshops offered to local school children by SAFC will see them engage with the football club and use the examples found in the multi-national business to learn about how enterprises of this size operate. They will also be taught skills on how to run their own businesses, think creatively and solve problems.

There will also be certificates and prizes for the best performing students, presented by some very special guests from the Club!

With the project looking to get off the ground by Easter 2010, the youngsters of Wearside will soon have no excuse not to become the budding Entrepreneurs of the future!
