Enterprising London

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde; “flowers are as common in the country as entrepreneurs are in London”.

So says a new YouGov survey, which has revealed that London’s workforce is the most entrepreneurial in the country. 1 in 5  ”Lanhdahn-ers” have started, or are looking to start, a business during the downturn. Cor-blimey, guvnor!

It’s great news, and a credit to the city that so many have developed an enterpising attitude.

However we should remember that villages, towns, and cities across the UK are just as hospitable as the metropolis for those looking to strike out and turn their passions into a profit. Examples of indivdual entrepreneurs who have set up businesses that have brought something new and distinctive to their communities are legion – take Make Your Mark in the Markets winner Matthew Crawford, for instance, whose new business has brought a unique Caribbean twist to the markets of Dover.

So, congratulations Londoners on such a good, enterprising showing. But, let’s remember that examples of entrepreneurial activity, spirit, and opportunity stretch from one grey, windswept and jagged coastline of the country to another.
