Today begins a Brave New World for students
August 20th, 2009 by Alex_GoldupUniversity is not the only option.
That’s the message worth repeating and remembering as, once again, we are assaulted from all sides by a barrage of bleak statistics: X number of students competing for Y number of openings that will result in many missing out on places, or so the story goes…
University really is only one possible part of the story that those collecting their A Level results will begin to live today. A route that involves dirty communal student kitchens stacked sky-high with mouldering piles of washing-up is one of many available.
Examples of those who carved out their own destinies after leaving school are plentiful and should be celebrated: Aaron Kirkhouse – our very own Make Your Mark Ambassador profiled in the Evening Standard yesterday – set up a successful music biz after leaving school; Gavin Edley – featured in today’s Independent- left school and set up his own copywriting agency. These are but a few examples (many more can be found on the MYM site).
So, to those of you opening your envelopes with baited breath today. Good luck…and remember, your future can be whatever you make it: university or no.
