Last night saw the launch event of the eagerly anticipated MET Academy at Aston Villa Football Club – entitled Creating Young Stars.

Head of MET Academy Debbie West and her Academy Manager Seta Bassi had done a sterling job of putting together the event, which was attended by over 80 Enterprise partners, ambassadors and businesses from the local area; from small businesses to large multinationals with interests in the area. Make Your Mark was represented by Higher Education Co-ordinator Kate Fredericks and West Midlands Region Partnership Manager Caroline Maggs.  Many of the attendees signed up for various roles from mentoring and lecturing to offering student placements; ensuring the students attending the academy will have a wide variety of industry help and experience.  All students coming through the Academy will take part in a compulsory Make Your Mark initiative such as the Challenge during Global Entrepreneurship Week or Make Your Mark with a Tenner. Speakers at the event included Angela Maxwell, Director of Acuwomen and Advantage West Midlands, John May the Chief Executive of Career Academies UK and Anthony McCourt; the Chair of the Academy’s Board. A delicious meal was provided for all attendees during the speeches culminating in cupcakes featuring the Met Academy logo created by Make Your Mark Ambassadors ‘Kiss Me Cupcakes’ www.kissmecupcakes.co.uk aka Dalvinder Cheema and Mary Ashram. Find out more at www.METacademy.org
